Unconditional Love

Unconditional Love

Outer chaos, inner calmness, and healing

Addressing your emotional response to the pandemic.

My topic today is unconditional love. Unconditional love fits so beautifully with this outer chaos. How do I keep unconditional love with this outer chaos? When I maybe come back to this experience of inner calmness. So, it’s not either or. How can I live in this unconditional love when I don’t like some people? I don’t like some of the things they do. There are a lot of things I don’t have to like in this pandemic situation. Stay in a close love relationship with all the chaos going on is really quite difficult. How do I look like being unconditionally loving when I have hardly enough time just almost liking or loving. That’s the struggle.

Sometimes I thought about the unconditional love in this image. I was walking on the street. I saw someone is carrying a pile of boxes. One fell off. So, I scooped down because I am a loving person. I picked up and box. Maybe I asked the person, “Can I put this back on?” A little bit I am expecting a “Thank you!” That’s kind of part of a conditional love. Or I was walking down the street. The same person was carrying a pile of boxes. One box fell off. I picked it up. I am not expecting a “Thank you!” But I helped to put it back to the pile and wished him well. Unconditional love in my head is. A person walked on the street. A box fell off. Without any thought at all, I just picked up that box and put it back on the pile. I continued to go on my way. Without expecting a “Thank you!” Without expecting a connection. Without even to analyze, “Oh, good. Glenn, that’s a good thing that you did.”

The unconditional love is just doing things in a loving way. The intent is so powerful. My intent is to have unconditional love. It is so powerful, but you can experience so much disappointment with the outcome. You find that my unconditional love doesn’t shine.

Let’s back to the explanation of unconditional love with this idea of reality and spirituality. The reality is you can be loving. But it is so mixed with evaluation, analyzing all this ups and downs. So, the idea of having unconditional love within reality is really difficult. I am not sure if it exists in the reality. But in the spirituality, it does. The spirituality is above that evaluation, above that place. Again, it’s not either or. It’s about both ends. How can you recognize the loving in the reality of your everyday life? It’s never measuring up to this unconditional love, but you have a way to come back to your open heart. With the power of that intention, you have a connection to knowing what unconditional love is. That motivates you to keep moving towards something in the way of that unconditional love.

There’s a book, “Guess how much I love you”. The story is about a mama hare and a baby. The little hare is always asking the mama, “Guess how much I love you?” And the mama hare is always responding in a higher level of love no matter what the baby hare says. The mother is not outdoing the baby, but just responding to love in a higher way. The baby hare says, “Mama, I love you to the moon.” The mama hare says, “I love you to the moon and back.”

The idea of this unconditional love really is not competitive. It’s a loving nature inside you that brings out the best in another. Then often you are practicing loving for the purpose of bringing out the best of loving of another. It does become kind of unconditional love response.

The conditional love is I want a “Thank you!” The conditional love is I want a response. Yes, I want a response, but I want a response of that person is brought to love himself to an ever greater or depth of dimension. So, this idea of loving you is for the sake of bringing out the best in you. Then when you practice that, when you stay with that, you always have something you can come back to because you always have that opportunity to bring out the best of another.
